FAMILY FAR AWAY

They can’t be in the room. They can still be there.

For grandparents overseas, a partner on deployment and best friends three time zones away. One page brings them all to the same moment.

Made for the miles between you

  • The same second, everywhere

The countdown runs to one exact moment. Sydney and Toronto reach zero together.

  • Easy for every generation

A link and a passcode are all it takes. There is nothing to download and no account to make.

  • Spanish for family who need it

The guest page speaks Spanish as well as English, and guests can switch with one tap.

  • A video for anyone who missed it

Make a short result video from your manage page and send it to whoever was asleep.

Planning it across time zones

  1. Start with the hardest time zone

Find out when your furthest guests are awake, then build outward from them.

  2. Tell people early

Give at least a week’s notice, especially anyone who may need to swap a shift or a night’s sleep.

  3. Do a test with the least techy guest

Send them the link early. If they can vote, they are ready for the big day.

Picking a time that works

There is rarely a perfect time, so look for the least bad one. Here is what 7 pm in London looks like for family elsewhere in the northern winter:

  • New York: 2 pm the same day
  • Los Angeles: 11 am the same day
  • Dubai: 11 pm the same day
  • Manila: 3 am the next day
  • Sydney: 6 am the next day

Helping grandparents join in

  • Send the link and passcode in the app they already use most, and put them in one message.
  • Call them the day before and walk through it once. Voting is a good practice run.
  • Printing the QR card helps too: they point their phone camera at it and the page opens.
  • Ask someone nearby to help on the day, if there is someone who can.

If someone can’t make it

Deployments and night shifts don’t move for anyone. Ask them to send a wish and a guess ahead of time, so they are part of it. Then send them the result video afterward, along with any recording of your reaction.

Questions we get

How do guests in other time zones know when to join?

The countdown on the page shows exactly how long is left, so nobody has to convert times. It is still worth telling people the time in their own zone when you invite them.

Do they need good internet?

A normal phone connection is enough to open the page and see the result. A video call needs more, so treat that part as optional for anyone on a weak connection.

Can a deployed partner enter the result, or keep it secret?

Yes, if they have a browser. In trustee mode, whoever knows the result opens a private link and enters it. The link works once and lasts 24 hours, and you can make a new one from your dashboard.

What if a relative speaks Spanish?

The guest page appears in Spanish for people whose browser is set to Spanish, and anyone can switch between English and Spanish on the page. What you write yourself stays in the words you wrote.

Close the distance for one big moment.
